About Me
I am a creative team leader and art director passionate about designing visual communications and digital products that truly make a difference.
Building on my experience as an art director and training as a user experience designer, I use a human-centered approach in each creative decision I make. My commitment to thorough research ensures that creative content aligns seamlessly with user needs and business/institutional marketing objectives.
My superpower? Bringing out the best in the teams I lead by fostering creativity, collaboration and empathy. Applying organization and communication skills to every project, I ask the right questions to develop a clear vision that surpasses client expectations.
I am currently the Director of Graphic Arts at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine's Department of Art as Applied to Medicine.
“I truly value Karen as a great mentor and talented creative leader. Karen is a creative and strategic problem solver who understands the value in collaboration. She facilitates a team mentality and is great at utilizing her team’s strengths to deliver the best solution.”
“Karen is a thoughtful designer that also balances business. What do I mean by that? She’ll ask questions about the why rather than just go and design—will it work to create the desired outcome? What is the positioning? I’ve worked with Karen on large and small projects... I’d work with her again in a heartbeat.”
