Project Overview
As the art director of John's Hopkins School of Medicine's Department of Art as Applied to Medicine, I worked with Breakthrough ACTION's communications team to create an online learning portal providing public health professionals working in developing countries with knowledge and skills in new social behavior change methodologies.
SBC Learning Central was originally a separate website from Breakthrough ACTION's main site. The communications team recommended that SBC Learning Central become part of Breakthrough ACTION's website to create a seamless user experience.
Problem
How do we create a distinctive online portal, that's part of the Breakthrough ACTION main site, and easier for public health professionals to find the courses and toolkits they need?
The original SBC Learning Central website was not part of Breakthrough ACTION's main site.
Visually, the original SBC Learning Central website did not look like it was a Breakthrough ACTION product leading to potential confusion.
Course and toolkit information wasn't well organized.
Based on research and feedback, users of the site found it difficult to navigate without a way to filter for specific topics, or language.
Solution
A micro-site with better organized information and robust filtering, helping public health professionals find courses and toolkits that will increase their SBC knowledge across a variety of topics.
SBC Learning Central was redesigned as a micro-site on Breakthrough ACTION's main website, using Breakthrough ACTION's branding, colors and typography creating a seamless user experience.
Robust filtering on the landing page allows public health professionals to find courses and toolkits based on SBC approaches, technical areas, and course language.
With an international focus on francophone West Africa, the site's content is viewable in either French or English.
